Privacy Policy

How PayOwed handles your information. Effective September 6, 2026.

The short version

The calculator runs entirely in your browser. The pay rate, shift times, break and differentials you type are never sent to us or to anyone else. There is no account, and you can use every calculator on this site without giving us any personal information at all.

The only personal information we can receive is an email address, and only if you choose to type one into the waitlist form. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

What the calculator does with your inputs

Every calculation happens locally in your browser using JavaScript that was downloaded with the page. Your rate, start and end times, unpaid break, differentials, weekly hours and the resulting gross estimate are not transmitted to our servers, and they are not stored on your device after you leave or reload the page.

If analytics is enabled (see below), a completed calculation does send a small, deliberately coarse summary: a shift-length band (for example "8–10h"), a result band (for example "$200–400"), and two yes/no flags for whether a differential and overtime were used. Your actual hourly rate, shift times and total are not included in that summary and never leave your browser.

The waitlist form

The waitlist form asks for two things: which feature you would use most, and — optionally — an email address. The email field is optional on purpose. If you leave it blank, your answer is accepted, nothing about you is stored on a mailing list, and you simply do not hear from us again.

If you do enter an email address, we send it to Brevo, the email service we use to run the launch mailing list, and store it there as a contact along with two attributes: the feature you chose and which of two price options this browser was shown. That is the entire record. We use it for one purpose — to email you about the launch — and Brevo processes it on our behalf under its own privacy terms.

Analytics

When a Google Analytics 4 measurement ID is configured for a build of this site, the site loads Google's gtag script and reports a short list of product events: a page view, that a calculation was started or completed, that the app call-to-action was seen or clicked, that a waitlist response was submitted, and that this is a return visit.

Those events carry only allow-listed properties: the path of the page you are on, the page you first landed on, the referring site's origin and path, utm_source and utm_campaign if present in the link you followed, the calculation bands described above, which feature you picked in the waitlist form, whether you provided an email (yes or no — not the address), and your price variant. Query strings and URL fragments are stripped, and any value containing an "@" is dropped before sending. Your email address is never sent to Google Analytics. Page titles and full URLs are suppressed, and Google Signals and ad personalization are turned off, so the analytics data is not used to build advertising audiences.

Google receives your IP address and standard device and browser information as part of any request to its servers, and it sets its own cookies to distinguish one browser from another. If no measurement ID is configured, no analytics script is loaded and none of this happens. Blocking the script — with a content blocker, for example — does not affect the calculator.

Cookies and browser storage

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies of our own. The site stores three small values in your own browser:

  • payowed:price:v1 (localStorage) — which of two price options this browser is shown, so the price does not change between visits. If localStorage is unavailable, the same value is written to sessionStorage, and failing that to a cookie of the same name that expires after twelve months.
  • payowed:visited:v1 (localStorage) — a single flag recording that this browser has been here before, so a return visit is counted once.
  • payowed:analytics:session:v1 (sessionStorage) — which analytics events have already been sent in this session, so a reload does not double-count them, plus the landing page, referrer and campaign values for the session.

None of these contain your email address or your pay figures. You can clear them at any time through your browser's site-data settings; the site keeps working without them. Google Analytics sets its own cookies separately when it is enabled.

How long data is kept

A waitlist email address stays in Brevo until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, or until we shut the mailing list down. Analytics events are retained by Google under the retention period set on the analytics property. Browser storage lasts until you clear it, apart from the fallback cookie, which expires after twelve months. Preference-only submissions with no email address are not stored on any server.

Who else sees your data

Two processors, both named above: Brevo for the waitlist email, and Google Analytics for product analytics. Our hosting provider necessarily handles the network requests your browser makes, including your IP address, in order to serve the site.

We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are used in the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we do not exchange it for advertising value. We may disclose information if the law requires it.

Your choices and rights

To stop receiving email, use the unsubscribe link in any message we send, or email support@payowed.app and we will remove you. To have your record deleted, email the same address and say so — you do not have to explain why, and we delete the contact from Brevo.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA/CPRA or a similar law: to know what we hold, to get a copy, to correct or delete it, to withdraw consent, to object to or restrict certain processing, and not to be treated differently for exercising those rights. Because the only personal information we hold is an email address you gave us voluntarily, most requests are simple: write to the address above from the email address in question and we will act on it. If you are in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

This site is meant for people checking their own pay and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. If you believe a child has given us an email address, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or why, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Questions, deletion requests and corrections all go to support@payowed.app.
